Stable polynomial division and essential normality of graded Hilbert modules

چکیده

The purpose of this paper is to initiate a new attack on Arveson’s resistant conjecture, that all graded submodules of the d-shift Hilbert module H are essentially normal. We introduce the stable division property for modules (and ideals): a normed module M over the ring of polynomials in d variables has the stable division property if it has a generating set {f1, . . . , fk} such that every h ∈ M can be written as h = ∑ i aifi for some polynomials ai such that ∑ ‖aifi‖ ≤ C‖h‖. We show that certain classes of modules have this property, and that the stable decomposition h = ∑ aifi may be obtained by carefully applying techniques from computational algebra. We show that when the algebra of polynomials in d variables is given the natural l norm, then every ideal is linearly equivalent to an ideal that has the stable division property. We then show that a module M that has the stable division property (with respect to the appropriate norm) is p-essentially normal for p > dim(M), as conjectured by Douglas. This result is used to give a new, unified proof that certain classes of graded submodules are essentially normal. Finally, we reduce the problem of determining whether all graded submodules of the d-shift Hilbert module are essentially normal, to the problem of determining whether all ideals generated by quadratic scalar valued polynomials are essentially normal.

Stable Division and Essential Normality: the Non-homogeneous and Quasi Homogeneous Cases

Let H d (t ≥ −d, t > −3) be the reproducing kernel Hilbert space on the unit ball B d with kernel k(z, w) = 1 (1− 〈z, w〉)d+t+1 . We prove that if an ideal I ⊳ C [z1 , . . . , zd] (not necessarily homogeneous) has what we call the approximate stable division property, then the closure of I in H d is p-essentially normal for all p > d. We then show that all quasi homogeneous ideals in two variabl...

Essentially Reductive Weighted Shift Hilbert Modules

We discuss the relation between questions regarding the essential normality of finitely generated essentially spherical isometries and some results and conjectures of Arveson and Guo-Wang on the closure of homogeneous ideals in the m-shift space. We establish a general results for the case of two tuples and ideals with one dimensional zero variety. Further, we show how to reduce the analogous q...

Cones of Hilbert Functions

We study the closed convex hull of various collections of Hilbert functions. Working over a standard graded polynomial ring with modules that are generated in degree zero, we describe the supporting hyperplanes and extreme rays for the cones generated by the Hilbert functions of all modules, all modules with bounded a-invariant, and all modules with bounded Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity. The f...

Bitableaux Bases for some Garsia-Haiman Modules and Other Related Modules

For certain subsets S and T of A = { · · · , (0, 2), (0, 1), (0, 0), (1, 0), (2, 0), · · · } and factor spaces C S [X, Y ], C +S,T [X, Y, Z,W ] and C − S,T [X, Y, Z,W ], bitableaux bases are constructed that are indexed by pairs of standard tableaux and sequences in the collections ΥψS and ΥψT . These bases give combinatorial interpretations to the appropriate Hilbert series of these spaces as ...
